At Kidfixers Pediatrics, we firmly believe:
Unfortunately, the vaccine campaign is truly a victim of its own success. It’s precisely because vaccines are so effective at preventing illness that we even discuss whether or not they should be given. Because of vaccines, most parents have never seen a child with polio, tetanus, whooping cough, bacterial meningitis, or even chickenpox. And that, of course, is a wonderful thing. However, such successes can make us complacent about the need for vaccination.
We write this statement not to scare you or coerce you, but to emphasize the importance of vaccinating your child. We recognize that the choice may be emotional and we will try our best to address your concerns and help explain that vaccinations are in the best interest of your child and the community as a whole.
In some cases, we will consider altering the schedule to accommodate parental reservations. However, please understand that delaying or “breaking up” the vaccines to give one or two at a time over two or more visits goes against expert recommendations and can put your child at risk for serious illness or even death. In the event that an alternate vaccination schedule is approved, we require initiation of vaccinations by the age of 2 months with a plan to complete the primary vaccination series by age 18 months. We will charge an additional $30 fee for all additional nursing visits for the administration of these vaccine.
Because we are committed to protecting the health of your children through vaccination, we require that all of our patients be vaccinated unless there is a specific medical reason that prevents vaccination. If you refuse to vaccinate your child despite all our efforts and recommendations, we will ask you to find another health care provider who shares your views. We do not keep a list of such providers, nor would we recommend any such physician.
As medical professionals, we know that vaccinating children on schedule with currently available vaccines is absolutely the right thing to do for all children and young adults.
We’re always happy to answer any questions, or to discuss any concerns, you may have about vaccines.
If it is an emergency, please call 911.
For urgent concerns that arise after hours, or on weekends, please call our regular office number, (702) 765-5437, to reach the provider on call. A provider from our practice is on call at all times to return your call. Our answering service will take a message and page the on-call provider to return your call. Please unblock your telephone so that you can receive a call back. Also, please make sure that you have your phone on hand and are ready to answer the call back. During periods of very high volume, calls are prioritized by severity of symptoms. Calls are usually returned within 15 minutes, but on rare occasions, it could take up to an hour to receive a call back for a non-urgent issue. If your call has not been answered in a reasonable amount of time, please call back. Modern technology can falter from time to time and, occasionally, a call or page might get “lost.”
Please reserve after-hours calls for truly ill children or for emergent concerns that cannot wait until regular office hours. Please do not call after hours and on weekends to request appointment changes or prescription refills. These types of non-urgent calls will be subject to an after hours service fee that will not be billed to an insurance company.
